The Devanney Family Highland Park Market has been a Manchester landmark for over 100 years. Originally constructed in 1886 by William White, Highland Park was already setting itself apart by selling "a carefully selected stock of dry and fancy foods." Not only was the market operating as a general store but it also served as a Post Office with its own postmaster. Today the post office is still a part of the Highland Park Market interior, as one can see it hanging from the inside of the store walls. John Devanney leased the store in 1953, purchased it four years later, and finally incorporated it in 1960. Ever since the beginning Highland Park Market has served as a family run business, a tradition that has been instilled through its hundred years. During the 20s and 30s the store was run by Jim Nichols, father of six children, and when John Devanney took over in 1953 his six children played an active role in running the market. Today the store is owned and operated by John Devanney's son Tim, who yet again holds on to the help of his six children. It must be that Highland Spring Water.
